What Is A Leader: Cracking the Glass Ceiling With Hillary

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton

Tonight, Tuesday, July 26, 2016, history was made: Hillary Clinton became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major political party. As a woman, if you don’t understand the depth of this nomination, try. This is monumental…on every level. It was a grueling campaign, but Hillary dug deep, and ‘she’s still standing.’

In response, via satellite, she said, “I can’t believe that we’ve just put the biggest crack in that ceiling yet. This is really your victory, this is really your night. And if there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say: I may become the first woman president but one of you is next.”

Ladies, this is amazing. It is big in every way – for us, for our daughters, and for generations to come. As women, we are moving forward in ways that, twenty years ago, were unimaginable. We are a force, and we are just beginning to understand that, to acknowledge that, and to revel in that. And it is REALLY COOL!!!

Four years ago, when Melissa McNamara and I began to create our Legendary Looks, the first Look that we wanted to explore was The Leader. Our inspirations were Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and (one of my best friends), television executive, Lillah McCarthy. We looked at these women – at their style, their philosophy, their essence, and, what we perceived to be, their gift to the world.

Using these women as our template, we saw The Leader as a woman who was courageous and self-assured. A woman who had faith in herself and in her own value. A woman who was extraordinarily resilient and who dealt with challenges without complaint.

We saw that The Leader had, not only an enormous willpower and energy on taking on new projects,  but an unparralled comprehension of the world around her, always giving others opportunities to challenge themselves.

Take our quiz to see what Legendary Look you embody. Perhaps, you too, are a Leader.
